Meet Stuti R. Datanwala

Payments and fintech leader with experience at Visa, NPCI and Worldline, and three ventures of her own.

Stuti R. Datanwala

She has worked on every side of a payment: the global card network, the national scheme, the gateway and the startup.

At Visa, Stuti led Acceptance Solutions (CyberSource) for India, partnering with banks, merchants and payment providers, and ran the tokenisation and RuPay programmes the whole market had to deliver. At NPCI she drove RuPay eCommerce acceptance across India's largest merchants.

Before that she co-founded eazy2pay, one of India's first payment gateway companies, launched in 2000. She also founded a loyalty wallet startup and ran a payments software company with clients in India, the US, Europe and Australia.

Today she leads Datanwalas Consulting and consults with Juspay. She also explains payments to everyday consumers on Payments in 60.

Your money, explained in 60 seconds.

Paisa kaise chalta hai, ek minute mein.

Payments in 60 is a consumer education channel on Instagram and YouTube. Every video takes one thing about how you pay, like UPI, your debit card, a new RBI rule or the latest scam, and explains it in plain English and Hinglish in about a minute. No jargon and no selling. Just what you need to know, from someone who spent 25 years building India's payment systems.

A taste

The kind of thing we clear up

What people think

"Anyone can tap my card and empty my account."

What actually happens

A contactless tap works without a PIN only up to ₹5,000 a transaction.

Your bank also sets a daily total for PIN-free taps. Once you cross it, the terminal asks for your PIN again. You can turn contactless off, or change the limit, in your banking app.

Anyone who pays or receives payments. Which is everyone.

Pay safe, pay smart

Most fraud doesn't break the system. It talks you into opening the door.

Safety runs through everything on the channel. Stuti makes videos on remote-access scams, fake refunds, collect requests and other tricks, and takes part in #CreatorsAgainstCyberCrime, the cyber-fraud awareness effort.

She also runs Pay Safe, Pay Smart, a live session on protecting yourself and your family while paying digitally. It is available for communities, housing societies, colleges and workplaces.

Payments Shouldn't Feel Like Guesswork.

  • 01
Matching UPI screenshots to WhatsApp orders, by hand
  • 02
The customer's money is debited, but the order shows failed

And you don't know what to tell them.

  • 03
Every gateway says its fees are the lowest

So how do you actually compare them?

  • 04
Your sales and your bank credit never match

    Deductions you can't explain.

  • 05
    COD orders come back unopened

And you've paid shipping both ways.

  • 06
KYC and document requests you didn't expect

    Holding up your launch.

  • 07
A customer disputes a payment weeks later

And the money is pulled back from your account.

  • 08
Customers drop off when a payment fails at checkout

And you never find out why.

You started a brand to build products. Not to decode payments.

02 · What you'll learnPayments in 60

Walk Away Knowing This.

Choosing a gateway

What to compare: fees, settlement time, onboarding and support. You'll leave with a one-page checklist to compare any two gateways.

What each order really costs

Transaction fees, GST on those fees, and the charges nobody mentions upfront.

Example: a ₹1,000 order at a 2% fee costs ₹20, plus ₹3.60 GST on that fee. ₹976.40 reaches you.

Is UPI really free for your brand?

What zero MDR on UPI means in practice, and what to check in your gateway's pricing.

Money debited, order failed

Exactly what to tell your customer, the timelines RBI sets for reversing failed payments, and the compensation customers are owed if those are missed.

Chargebacks and disputes

What to do when a customer disputes a payment, and how to keep the proof that wins it.

More payments that go through

Why payments fail at checkout, and the settings and payment options that lift your success rate.

Settlements and cash flow

When your money reaches the bank, and how to plan around it.

Beyond WhatsApp and COD

When to move to a proper checkout, and how to nudge customers to prepaid with discounts, partial COD or a small token payment.
